Just got one and it has 'L' shaped holders on it that fit under the swingarm, problem is the right hand one catches on the brake pipe. I could cut a bit off, but is there a better attachment to do the job?

Hell no ! It's not a great idea to cut bits off the brake pipe
(and, sorry, I don't know the answer to the rest of it)

as kiwi said
you need irc bobbins and 10mm nut and bolt - bolt goes on the bobbin then all of it screws into swing arm

Agree Bobbins and hooks are the way to go - I've got a couple of R & G cotton reel bobbins which stay on the swinging arm permanently - Demon Tweeks do Bobbin Hooks - think they're about 8 quid a pair and the bobbins are about the same price. The R & G ones are a bit pricey but I managed to get a couple cheap off Ebay so it might be worth a look.

I had the L shaped brackets on for about 5 minutes. Then I thrashed them!
It is somewhat unrelaxing seeing you bike slide of the L shaped brackets after getting them wet when washing the bike.
Bobbins and hooks are great!

I'm actually in the process of modifying my stand.
It was a general purpose model that came with the L Cups. I find that with the hooks fitted the stand interferes when using the chain tensioners.
I can't justify buying a dedicated bobbin stand so I'm going to chop my stand lower and have a "V" hook sticking up above the stand tube.
If you look at proper bobbin stands you'll see what I mean.

BTW, you've already got the bobbins for the swingarm.
Unscrew the luggage hooks underneath the passenger seat and screw them into the swingarm .... a nice bit of dual-purpose design

Nice one, how would I ever have known that?
Thanks for the offer K1w1, I don't know what make it is, it's out of the M&P catalogue item number 551552 which I got free for subscribing to Bike for 12 months. Just looking in there I now see the hooks etc you've been telling me about, thanks. Will try D-Riders fix first.

.....really! Think I will give that a go, my bobbins are cheap ebay types, keep thinking they are going to give out when on the paddock stand, come to think of it it is the same kind of gut feeling I had before the bloody thing fell of the original side stand

Now how can THAT happen with the perfect sidestand design our Aprilia's have....
