I fancy some bars to give my old back a bit of a rest, Helibars are rather expensive, are there any good alternatives which will save me a few bob. (tight northern b-----d as my missus says)

Cheapest option I've heard of is to put the standard bars on top of the yokes rather than under them.

I've read it is quite possible but may require new hydraulic lines etc. and a bit of care to avoid fouling on the screen. Some one has done it so you could look for a link. I was thinking about the option for a while but have worked around the issue by changing my ridding position , not bars seat or pegs but lower spine, pelvis position to keep the back streight and flat. It may not be physicaly available to every one and might look a bit racey for a trip around town, but is pretty comfortable on a long run and I now find the ergernomics of pegs, bars and tank pretty much spot on.

WOW Sane guy, drill a hole!!!! Making me nervous now, can see this ending up costing more than new bars! Thanks for the reply but mmmm need a bit of time to think about this move.

Moving the clipons over the yoke is the cheapest option (nil), if you don't mind them not secured against rotating - no need for any drilling.

Next step on the price list is Helibars.

Then it gets pricey (Convertibars, Gilles Variobars, others). I'm a fan of Convertibars. They cost quite a lot though www.motohaus.com

£219 for the Heli bar risers, or the fork trick - how much is a decent steering damper ?

It's not strictly NECESSARY to fit a steering damper. I'd fit the clipons over the yoke. That will give you a reference point.

What is it with all this talk of high bars? - are we becoming the Falco chopper forum?
(Cue Aladinsaneuk's next round of mods with the kicked out forks, slash cut exhausts, bar end tassels and a matching set of leather chaps and waistcoat to set it all off).

Come on guys, the Falco's got a nice relaxed riding position as it is without going for this full ape-hanger setup.

it may not be necessasry, but i knew i was going to need one as my bike is quite punchy - it is,after all, the fastest coloured falco :)

the original mille ones, no adustable are dirt cheap via ebay, like maybe 10 to 20 quid

the adjustable ohlins can get very spendy - i paid over the odds for mine, but 100 would cover it

drilling through the triple clamp is no biggie imho - my mate is a welder/metal worker and he did it for me.... i sort his computer out in return for such things :)
