Stock cans

Just been for a blast round the Essex countryside with stock cans fitted. They came as part of the deal and with MOT time in Sept I thought i`d see how they fit.
20 minutes later my Leo`s which are stamped "not for road use" are in their boxes and the stock black cans are on. Firstlty stock weigh at least twice what the Leos weigh but the main difference is the noise, or lack of it.
The effect can best be described as castrating the Italian Stallion. We have gone from a thundering Vee twin to a wheezing excuse, just to keep the EU Ivory tower builders happy.
Guess what my next mod is.................. putting the Leos back on.

ah ha, I have just done a similar thing, it was MOT time 2 weeks ago, and I swopped the SL carbons for the standard exhaust.
although the mpg is better, the sound is horrible, I have just been too lazy to change back.
I want to get the the carbon cans back on for a track day, but without some baffle of some sort, there is no chance,
has anyone been able to adapt a baffle to fit the SL carbon cans? Skinny

Oy - just stop this Standard-can-ism prejudice stuff - some of us have been running with them since day 1 up 'till the present day (although that may have changed by the weekend

Did you ever get your hearing problem sorted Andy

Or are you having a de-waxing this weekend
The bike sounds horrible on standard cans, you can hear the poor exhaust gasses running around trying to find their way out!
Some of us get ear damage in other ways, me I just use ear plugs, but still can't get over how loud it is with the earplugs out, and my cans have baffles and the road legal stamps. (Yeh!).

I dont know what the MPG figures are with the stock cans, and wont be leaving them on long enough to find out

However, with the Leos on I get ave 38mpg over nearly 2K miles which includes mororways, back road scratching and a bit of town work, but not much.

I managed to get some decibel killers, which although to big, i was able to grind, file and adapt.
just seems to take the edge off the noise at tickover. (still fairly loud)

Leo`s are back on, thats much better

I dont think my cans are suitable for decibel killers, theres no provision in the end at all, and if you look carfully out of the way on the bottom where the entry pipe goes in, it says "not for road use", dont know why, they seem to work pretty well on the road to me

I,ve got SL carbons, decibel killers push into end, then undo a bolt for holding it in place via push fit.
no damage to cans if it doesn,t work.

xrphil can you explain in more detail as I want to get some of these. Thanks!

the decibel killers are effectivly a metal tube, with a disc welded half way, the disc has some cutouts for air flow.
The disc is to big to go into the exhaust so you need to grind it down a little bit.
To hold it in place is a bolt with a locknut, you undo the bolt, till it locks against the inside of the exhaust tail pipe. job done.

same principle but different, i think you wld be Knackered if that one didn,t fit. the disc one can be filed down.
I will try and find a diagram.

OK thanks - a diagram would be great.
