Stainless Fasteners

#1 Post by Alkydale » Tue Jun 24, 2008 10:58 am

Hi gang, has anybody, sure you must have, fitted stainless fasteners to their baby? Saw these on eBay and thought they might be a nice addition.

Any comments, advice?

Cheers.

Hi, I recently bought some stainless dome head allen bolts from this guy and I was very happy with him/them. Delivery was 2 days only and he left feedback pretty quickly too.

And the bolts are nice and shiny :smt038

Be aware that some of these suppliers seem to advertise exactly the same bolt sets with any name/brand of bike. In other words this is just a selection of bolts, nuts and washers that would fit any bike assuming it was metric thread.

There isn't much on the Falco you can replace anyway. The fairing bolts are already stainless I believe and I'd be wary of using A2 stainless for high torque uses if you are thinking of Frame or brake caliper/disc mounts.

+1 to Fausto's comments

I always replace the fasteners on my bikes with SS caphead (allen key) fittings and tend to use my good old nut's & bolts specialist. (B&D Bolts in Batley). Look in the yellow pages and you will find a few local to you. Costs are a fraction of what they charge on eBay.

The only problem area is the caliper bolts which are metric fine thread. These are not stocked in the main and you need to find a specialist manufacturer. I have just such a man locally but 4 metric SS cap headbolts for my radial calipers cost £16!!!

Virually every other bolt on the bike all in SS and cap head came to about £12 though

Yep, some things to think about there. Falco9 may have the right idea though.......more investigation required!
