am I correct in thinking that the part # 19 is a sealed unit and once failing, is, to coin a phrase, knackered?

if so, is there a cheaper replacement than 20 quid?

You are correct Pete. It is an all in one unit and very easily damaged.

I got one from InMoto for less than the Yorks price. Can't remember how much less but I was impressed enough to post up about it so you could do a search.

Managed to find a perfect one off eBay, (only bit on the bike that's ever let me down in 4 yrs). Having said that it wasn't much cheaper than Fausto's supplier, will defo use them if I need another. As for repairing them, not much chance, as the plunger is a very tight in the sleave, best bet is always remember to clean and lube. It seems to stick fully in, I felt sure I could get it back out and clean up, but never got the plunger out no matter what I did. You may just have a chance of sorting it if it is protruding slightly.

I can't find any way of getting mine to work with the Gilles rearsets, anyone got any tips? Alternatively I'm looking at replacing it with a fluid pressure switch, any advice or recommendations about this?

No direct experience but I have seen it recommended by others.

Yup it's knackered and needs replacement. I had one give up on me and replaced it. I couldn't even open the knackered one to see if it was fixable as a spare.

As to the pressure switches, I've tried a couple. They were both double banjo's on the front of an old Suzuki and they were crap. Both packed up in a matter of months. They were in use every day in all weathers, but still!

My suggestion (and I'll be doing one of these if mine packs up again); use the good old tried and tested pull switch. Must be able to lash one up some how; or a microswitch.
