What oil should I use

Due to my clutch slipping at around 8,000 revs (proper sickener when your trying to put a honda civic in its place) I am going to do an oil and filter change as well roughing up the steel clutch plates.
I have read a few posts regarding this issue and there seems to be varying views on which oil to use. so can you point me in the right direction please.
i have a 2000 Falco (black)
Thanks
MH

Yes, if you are getting clutch slip, go for
10/40 semi-synth (bike oil not car oil that may have friction modifiers added)
Also check you don't have other clutch-related issues - maybe the plates need roughening and/or maybe the clutch mechanism isn't releasing properly .... though probably an oil change will solve it

Thanks to both of you i will give some 10w40 a go and look at the clutch at the same time (weekend) I'll let you know if there is any improvement.
Cheers

Probably the best deal you'll get will be from Opie Oils - registered users of this site get an additional discount from their already very reasonable prices. Here:

My preference is for Motul 5100 semi-synth 10/40 or 15/50. Excellent oil at very keen prices.

Sorry to jump in but need to ask due to the falco being funny with the clutch... I've always been a Castrol power 1 user, this an ok oil for the falco too? Part synth, 10w40....

I am using Castrol Power 1 Racing 4T 10W-50 (fully synth) without any problems in a 2003 Falco, but some folk reckon early bikes clutches don't like fully synth. However this is what Castrol recommend.

Mines an "03" but I play on the safe side so will probably go with semi synth.
Appreciated though.
Pain getting neutral and service is due... Best get it done I guess.

A manufactured-in-03 or an 03-plate?
The label on the subframe rail under the rider's seat will confirm.
