Yup, no real long term damage, it just left me with this strange sense of humour and a poor sense of smell!

Funny you should say that Howard; when I was a yoof in the late 60s my mate and I were riding around on Honda 175s and we hit on the idea of providing a bit of 'upper cylinder lubrication' for the bikes using Castrol R. We then took turns riding behind and inhaling the fumes while the lead rider gave his bike some welly. Fantastic stuff. (I use the term 'welly' loosely when referring to Honda 175s of course).

First lap round at any race in those days was a real treat. You got a wonderful blast of Castrol R as the bikes came past for the first time, as well as the sounds. I was gutted when race bikes stopped using the stuff and turned to this poncey synthetic malarkey...

You boys need to get together and start a self help group.

I too am guilty of this conceit.

Thing is - back then I don't suppose any of us had any idea what Castrol R was actually meant to do. We just knew that if you put some in with your petrol it smelt great :smt003

Seems quite funny now that I look back on it. All that fuss over an unnecessary oil when I don't suppose I ever changed the important stuff..............ever :smt009

Naah. They just need to go to a BMCRC meet and smell the MZ's.
