Ohlins forks for Falco

#1 Post by fastrider » Wed Mar 14, 2007 11:23 pm

Hi all,

Firstly, managed to find my way over here from the old site (been away for a while), so HELLOOOO to everyone :smt006

Now the Query.

I have downloaded the old tips n stuff but still need some gaps filling in.
If I fit a set of Ohlins forks complete with top and bottom yokes off a Mille-R (2k model), can I......

1. Still use my original handle bars?
2. If yes to above, will there be any probs with lock-to-lock clearances etc

3. Can I use my original brake calipers? Or need set from Mille-R?

4. If Mille-R calipers required, do I need corresponding Master Cylinder?

I'm sure there was something else I needed to ask, but can't think of it at this moment.

So any info or answers to these would be most welcome.

I thank you
:smt001

Re 1. ohlins diameter is 52mm and showa/marzocchi is 53mm. So unless you fabricate spacers to go between the fork tube and clipon (someone's done it from an aluminium tube 0.5 mm thick) the answer is no.

Im doing the same mod.

Handlebars - You can if you get a spacer made. Ohlins are 51mm diameter and stock are 53mm. You cant use Mille bars as they will make contact with your tank and they are lower than the Falco ones. I am just going the spacer method.

Brakes - assuming you have the non-radial Ohlins forks, then you can reuse all the stock Falco brake parts.

Just a thought after seeing the comment from Syltiz about the RSV bars.

Could you put the RSV bars on top of the top yolk I think you only need 5 rings showing to do this with the Falco bars.

As I say just a thought.

Hmm... I cant think why that wont work, seems like a good idea - the proof will be in trying I suppose. The cables might have to all be replaced for longer ones, clutch, throttle, brakes.. but then again maybe not if the controls end up in the same place.

Its worth a try

Well the forks arrive Wednesday all being well. Must admit I have not a clue as to whether the Mille clip-ons will fit or not, but its worth a look at suppose, but was heading down the spacer route myself also.

Thanks Syltiz, happy to read that the stock Falco callipers will fit, saves some money at least. The only other question in my mind is will my original Falco wheel spindle and wheel fit the forks? Otherwise I will have to ring the guy back and buy the spindle.

I have fired off an email to a guy about a rear Ohlins Mille shock for 70 quid, thanks for the link Sabestian. Now all I need is a Mille swinger (pre 04) to finish the handling side.

Roll-on Wednesday....... :smt041 :smt081

..... That wouldn't have been this link would it Fastrider:

Link

...... if so, you might like to re-read the title at the top of the page that says:

"RSV MILLE & TUONO SHOCK ABSORBER SERVICE"

.... sorry to burst your bubble mate.

(thought I'd be able to give you a link to a real one I spotted yesterday .... but it seems to have gone!)

Spindle

#9 Post by Syltiz » Mon Mar 19, 2007 9:23 pm

When investigating this I arrived at the conclusion that the spindles are the same between the Falco and the RSVR. I just cant remember where I got this info.

Yep D-Rider, I also did notice that word, but have queried them via email
if they do sell any recon units.

Worth a try, but I know 70 squid wont get me an Ohlins, or at least I don't think it's poss.

I remember now.

If you go to http://www.apriliayorkshire.co.uk/ and add the front wheel spindles of the Falco and the RSVR to your shopping basket you will see they are the same product code - 8125827.
