Daft question about airboxes
OK so doing a bit of messing about with the bike and decided to see if anything under the tank had ever been changed. Took the airbox off to see how the aftermarket ones fitted and if I could make one myself when I noticed that there was a removable panel below the air filter (which looks like its never seen the light of day in 18000 miles).
So the question is why is it there?
Will I do any damage to the bike if I remove it which looks like it will just give the air a less restrictive path in?

oh my
a virgin - bile that is
remove it and check that the ecu lead has been snipped - sounds as if your bike has never been derestricted

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Seem to remember they were de-restricted to about 90 odd bhp (92 I think) for the American market mainly, but they all came out of the factory this way.
You should get nearly 118bhp at the crank now, you certainly will get this sort of figure with a K&N filter plus race cans, even better with a full airbox mod.

We had a different sized restrictor - if memory serves it is the same as they fitted to the French bikes to keep them below France's 100 bhp limit .... I'm guessing that must be 100bhp "at the crank" as I remember the gains when mine was de restricted and it was somewhat more than the 5 or 6 bhp that would be expected to get to the 105bhp or at the rear wheel of a standard (derestricted) Falco .... more like the 18 or 19 bhp that would get you up to the 118bhp crank-quoted figure.
