Rear Sprocket which size!

#1 Post by GregD-UK » Thu Sep 24, 2009 7:45 pm

Hi all,

Got a 15 teeth front sprocket, have toyed with different rear sizes, tried 42, then 43, and wondered if 41 was best! I want low end speed and with the obvious torque we have, no need for 165+ where the hell would I do that anyway :smt017

Tried that gearing site, but, figures mean nothing on there to me. All you seasoned falco riders who don't commute can you recommend either 41, 42, or 43 rear... I know it's personal choice, but, wisdom can cut short the trial and error of it all :smt002

Cheers...
My warranty is the clear/smoked tail lights around the corner!!

OMG!!!

15 front and 45 rear....

You'd have to put a wheelie bar on it :smt005 :smt005 :smt005 :smt005

Hi all,

You reckon 15 front and 42 rear is the optimum then Bigun? Sounds like a plan.... want to get it right before all put together :smt002

15/41 is what you get when you drop one tooth on the front with standard rear and is what is pretty much universally recommended for the Falco. This is almost exactly the same as 16/44 which I ran for 20,000 Miles or so.

Going to a 15/42 will not make a big difference and either way the thing will be good around town, quicker on a track day and pull healthily in top from 70MPH. It will feel a little busy "cruising" near the ton so not as good as standard, for Autobahn type mile munching.

Personally now I'm not commuting daily into a city, I think I prefer the standard gearing and like having an almost "Overdrive" top to change into when I've pretty much reached the speed I want to maintain.

I run 15-42 on the Tuono (16-40 is std) and it's still good for 160mph indicated and 3rd gear wheelies, I can pick the front wheel up at 70-80mph without too much effort.

I'd have thought this was almost ideal gearing for the Falco to be honest

15/42 is what I run on my Futura-much better behaved in slow traffic although I still find myself looking for an extra gear on m-ways etc.
