Well it would if you're putting the indicators in thereFalcopops wrote:Not necessarily as daft as it sounds, since my cunning plan involves drilling the plastic at some point any way.

Are you installing some LED units or poking individual LEDs through their own little holes?
(Let me know how you get on removing the mirror glass)

Not entirely sure 'till I get the glass out.
1st thoughts were individual holes for the LED's, reckon it's look better.
The more awkward bit will be running the wires. I'm thinking about drilling through the centre of the mounting bolt for the feed and using the metal of the bolt to run to earth so I can make the hole as fine as poss.
Not got a good feeling about that though.

Time is money, also think this as you said about it, drilling holes in bolts fopr wiring is not the right move, you should really be thinking fibre optics with a sender unit and receiver across the bridge between bike and mirror arm.Falcopops wrote:Fair point Gio, but I'll make them mesel for next to nowt. The'll be LED's so unlikely to get broken as readily as plastic lenses.
So, with no wires running into the mirror gio, how do you propose powering the receiver unit?Gio wrote:Time is money, also think this as you said about it, drilling holes in bolts fopr wiring is not the right move, you should really be thinking fibre optics with a sender unit and receiver across the bridge between bike and mirror arm.Falcopops wrote:Fair point Gio, but I'll make them mesel for next to nowt. TBH I had thought of those possibilities .... recovery of energy to allow things to be self-powered is quite a hot topic these days .... however, I was thinking that Dale probably had enough of a challenge in this one without complicating it further.Kwackerz wrote:wireless operated, solarpowered windicators.
See! I read Gio's mind.
It's possible. just not necessarily sensible.

Think outside the box when youre in the company of Gio..
There again, maybe we could fit the mirrors with a digestive system so that they could extract energy from Gio's sarnies to power the indicators.

Funnily enough I saw a wind powered light thingie for kids bikes recently.
A little fan that powers a LED array, so then I'd need a sender and receiver and a way to keep the lights flashing while stopped. I guess I could use a battery that the fan recharged when the indicators are off (most of the time really) which I guess is feasible. Might be a bit of a squeeze in the mirrors though.
Did I mention that I haven't got the glass out yet!
