I've been quoted both a YTX 12 and a YTX14, what is the difference and which one do the wise old sages recommend please?

The 14 rings a bell, but I could be wrong (it's not unusual, as some dodgy old Welsh bloke once crooned).
I'd choose the one with the largest Amp/Hour rating.
