And then some. :smt002
Glad to hear it :smt003 but do you believe that everyone else does?

Just to clear things up, I fully agree with the philosophy of maintaining your bike yourself (and I certainly wouldn't go to a stealer to get, say, a belly-pan or shock fitted), but can understand those that don't want to. But I will be getting this last service done by a dealer while it's still under warranty. Next time is another matter though :smt002
I can easily imagine that some owners (us lot excempt of course), lured by the potential savings, have a go at servicing their own bikes with their comprehensive chisel/hammer/visegrips toolkit. Ah it seems like only yesterday :smt003 !!

However with the benefit of much experience, increased maturity and a realisation that the right tool for the job isn't just an old saying I feel perfectly happy to tackle almost any job on my bikes/cars knowing I will do a good, safe job of it. It may take me 10 times as long as a workshop allocates but as I said earlier everything in the general vicinity of the initial job gets a good going over too.

So when its fantastic weather an you need a major servicing, you'll take 10 days over it rather than spend a bit and be riding it after 1 day?

I'm no mechanic so there are some things I'd never do, can't say what they are on this bike as I haven't looked at a service book, but on my old Blackbird I'd not do, timing chain, oil pump drive shaft, valves.

Ah but I do the servicing when the weather is crap :smt003

Then you will never 'know how' and will always rely upon a person/people/monkeys who may/may not know any more about the bike than you, 'cept they are prepared to read the manual! :smt006
And pay them handsomely fer their efforts too!!! :smt017

I'd not go to an Aprilia dealer, I prefer the people who understand the bike, who ride them and have 4 fingers and a thumb on each hand, unlike me.

Don't get me wrong I want to know what makes a bike tick, but there are some things I'm not sure about and never will be.

Whilst I have yet to do much work on the Falco, I rebuilt the engine on my Honda a few times. Once you get the confidence up (and have the manual handy!) it's OK.

As with all things, it's a matter of confidence, taking your time and being careful. I fully expect that I will be doing all the work on my Falco myself soon enough. Just not right now. :smt001
