Starter motor wouldn't stop

After re-fuelling for the return journey from Bedfordshire, my starter motor wouldn't stop spinning, even with the ignition off. After a minute or so, it sorted itself out.
The bike re-started as normal, and continued to do so.

Anyone else had this?

Was wondering if it may have been due to residual water in the ignition switch, or somewhere else, from last night's thorough washing - but I'd have thought today's heat, and a longish run, would have dried it out.

Last time I had a starter solenoid jam (not on the bike) the battery terminal burst into (spectacular) flames.

The starter solenoid was replaced 2 years ago, with the uprated (100?150? amp). It looks and smells ok, as do the battery terminals.

The battery is on the C-Tek charger most of the time (and I do remember to disconnect it from the mains each time it's used); I doubt it's the solenoid. But I suppose they can fail

Andy - wouldn't that cause the starter to run until the battery failed, or something melted? As I said, the problem sorted itself out after a minute or so of frantically trying ign. switch, kill switch, etc. The bike started and ran normally all the way back, with three stops and re-starts. Just been out now and it starts, runs, and switches off as normal.

Just had a quick search on AF1; someone reported a similar issue arising from a dodgy starter/killswitch unit. Think I've a spare one somewhere (last time I saw it it was in my sock drawer - no idea why it ended up there).

Yes I deleted my post before you stuck up this reply - I'd not read enough of your first post and gone off half-cocked - hence tried to delete it before I lead people up the garden path .... but was clearly too late ......

I had the exat same problem a few weeks ago. It was the starter solenoid has fused together. A replacement sorted it right out.

Could be a chafed wire or a short in the start button circuit.

IIRC it's the yellow/red wire, on the Falco that is. If this shorts to ground then it'll activate the starter solenoid.

This has happened more than once before.

If it started working normally then it's unlikely the solenoids welded itself closed, so I'd be looking at the solenoid actuating side of things.

Mine stuck then sorted itself out after a minute or so then stuck again. I'll try and post a photo of what my terminals looked like.
