Starting issues

#1 Post by Sleepyboy » Tue Sep 11, 2012 3:25 pm

Maybe the wallet opening has started......

Went for a decent run on Saturday to Donington Park and back, plus I keep the battery on an optimiser so the condition should be ok.

Got home in the afternoon, bike nice and hot, switched off to go in the house and unlock the back gates. When I cam to restart about 1 min later, it wouldn't have it.

Press the button - click from the relay under the seat but nothing else.
This happened for a few minutes until eventually the starter licked in (slowly) and the bike restarted.

Is this my starter solonoid asking to be renewed or something else? (It is an early (fast) 2000 black Falco btw)

Cheers, Paul

Ah, yes - the black bikes are not so reliable.

It does sound as though the solenoid is the likely culprit.

Yep starter solenoid

To check take the rear cowl off and short across it with the ignition on - if it starts there you go, bob's related to your mother and Andy's pubes are still grey

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Is the pattern one worth bothering with? Or should I pay the extra for peace of mind for the genuine part?

I've been using the pattern one from AJ Sutton for the last 6 months without any issues. Think it's a bit cheaper if you skip Amazon and go straight to their website.

Fitted the AJ Sutton replacement solenoid, the starter now spins over much faster.

The part I removed said "RC18-003 Made in Japan" - Is this an original part or a replacement that has now failed?
