Pitting!!!

although Griff said my 'blue' shock was in perfect condition and didn't need replacing (...what does he know?!!) I've bought an 03 Sachs shock, triangles and dogbone, I aim to get the shock seviced as a matter of course but on one side of the triangle there is some 'pitting', is this something i should be concerned about and is there anything i should do to remove it?

The steel ones can rust (there are two versions of the triangles - ally and steel).
You could get them cleaned up and surface treated - eg powder coated - though, over time, the dogbone could remove some of that.
The set I sold to Old Git, I cleaned up a bit and gave them a liberal brushing of kurust (yes he knew the condition - I wasn't pulling a fast one).
I think that's a fairly easy solution though it'll probably need doing again every so often.
.... and as for Griff "Mr Jackson" Wooley .... if he has an outlet for the super-spec blue spring shocks, please let me know - I've a number of them about and you can only use so many paperweights ...

What is pitting, is the same as rust??

It's a bit more severe than surface rust - it's when spots of rust corrode more deeply creating a pit.
If it's not got out of hand I wouldn't be too worried - just stop it getting any worse.

As it's not in an obviously visible area, you could periodically waxoil them or smear them in coppaslip to keep corrosion down in the future. Looks nasty and dirty salty grot will stick all over them (which will eat into them eventually), but is cheaper than re-finishing them.
