Resin casting

#1 Post by MartDude » Sat Oct 10, 2009 5:53 pm

Anyone here know anything about this?

I need to fashion some lightweight bar-end extensions (for mounting hand-guards) and was considering casting them in resin.

However I know absolutely nothing about this subject. What sort of resin would be suitable, bearing in mend factors such as weather resistance, resistance to vibration, strength in compression, and things I haven't thought of yet?

Not completely sure but I believe castings shrink so your moulding might need to be oversize since you are thinking of using the old ones as a pattern.

Thanks Greg, but I need to extend the existing R & G bar-ends by about 20 mm, without adding much weight. Or find some extra-long replacements.

Bar ends...

#5 Post by GregD-UK » Sun Oct 11, 2009 1:15 am

Hi all,

Demon tweeks do long bar ends on their website. And I think busters do a set as well. Failing that, I would try and source a local aluminum supplier and get ally tubing the same size and cut what length you want get it anodised your colour and fit longer bolts....

Just a thought :smt002
