thought I would share this, as others may have similar options

Hospital beds are great things - but they do get thrown out

now, has any one got any ideas that they can be used for when the hospitals have finished with them?

lets think on this - the will go from a very low height up to about 5 foot in the air... and they are 3 foot wide and 6 foot long - and can take a lot of weight - like 25 to 430 stone routinely

Hopefully a spare one will be arriving at Aladinsane Towers over the next few weeks, as we are at the beginining of the financial year so some are being retired

once it arrives, all headboards etc are being removed and a solid metal plate is being welded on to the base mattress sight

a metal ramp is also being constructed

all told a few hours work to produce a bike lift to allow easy working on a bike

I have blagged mine for 20 quid - and that is to pay someone to drop it off to me - once condemned by the nhs they should, realistically be destroyed/taken out of use - that costs skips etc so many just get quietly moved along...

(I would suggest that you power wash any bed from a hospital btw - with a mild bleach water solution...)

Is your bike sick or something? Should I send flowers?

Seems like a pretty good opportunity/excuse for some more customisation.

We might consider getting a hospital bed for all the Falconeers throwing themselves down the road at the moment

Jeez, it's going to be a big lift. Mine's tiny by comparison, but still weighs a ton. Sounds like a good project though.

More likely to find use at Aladinsane Towers when Mrs Aladinsane discovers just how much someone spends on their bike and that someone is exiled to sleep in the shed.

'Tis an interesting project - but surely this thing is just too huge for fitting in the average shed or garage?

is actually going into a friends garage... currently he is bikeless - well, he has bits of broken triumph but.....

will fit into a garage nicely

and my workshop is where i store my camping gear for when mrs aladinsane finds out about my spending - I have fitted a lock to the inside.....

And presumably they have a wheel at each corner?

Sounds like a top project. How would a non-NHS-er go about acquiring such a project? Or is that not possible...

afaik all trusts run on a 5 year depreciation cycle so on average each site will dispose of 20% of stock each year

most sites will run at a 15% over stock each year to allow for repairs and maintennce


for one of my local trusts that means for one site, 100 beds...

It's been a big disappointment reading this Pete. When I first saw the thread I only thought of one thing, as a special project for this weekend. I thought you were going to stick a tuned Falco engine in it, with 2 into 1 (seen the picture), into 2 into 4 exhausts, (Mille shotgun style either side). It already has adjustable ride height suspension and very quick steering, might even need an old Falco Blue Spring shock, modified as a steering damper, then Andy could use it as high speed transport over the next 3 months. The last one I saw also had a built in music system for his entertainment, but he might appreciate it more if you added the girl in the thong, to cheer him up, (sorry as his personal nursing assistant).

This would be similar to a "featherbed frame" then....

Exactly, I missed out on that one, it would have sounded much better! Still not everybody would have understood what I was on about, I used to have a Dunstall modified 650SS in a previous life!
