Starter motor packed up

#1 Post by spiderwheels » Sat Oct 03, 2020 1:01 pm

I changed the fuel pump after the old one stopped working.

I now have a working puel pump and a nice whirring sound when I turn the key! And fuel comes out of the fuel line :)

I tried starting it but it didn't go. So I gave it full choke and full throttle and it span for a while and then I stopped.

Tried it again and nothing from the starter motor....

Shorted the starter relay.. still nothing from the motor.

Managed to wrestle the starter motor out, split it open, cleaned up the commutator and wired it up to a battery.. It span but obviously not under load.

Put it back together.. it's still not turning

Next??

I would also remove the spark plug to allow the engine to spin easier, had a similar scenario once & found excess fuel in the engine locking it up from spinning .
