Castrol LM Grease - RIP

I lent my pot of LM Grease to my son ..... and he's lost it!

Never mind, thought I, I'll get some more.

Castrol LM has always been my "go to" grease for packing bearings and general purpose use - partly because my Dad used to work for Castrol Research, partly because I worked in their engine test dept one summer stripping and rebuilding engines and partly because it's a blooming good grease.

Well, try as I might, I couldn't find anyone that sells it.
So, I contacted Castrol and this is what I discovered:
Hi Andy

This was just a lithium multipurpose grease NLGI grade 2.

Unfortunately we no longer produce 500g tubs of grease, so the nearest would be a 400g grease cartridge of Castrol Spheerol EPL 2 grease which you may be able to get.

Otherwise your local car accessory store should carry a general purpose lithium grease hat will be suitable

Kind regards

Thought I'd share this on here in case any of you were users of Castrol LM

Hi Andy, it's always a bummer when a product you've relied on for years goes AWOL. But other makes are available... I've always rated Comma products - they don't do flashy advertising, but they have an extensive range of oils and greases.

Perhaps this would suit you, sir?

Cheers Graham

Yes, it does seem that I'm going to have to explore other brands. With my Dad getting a free box of Castrol products when he worked there, I always just mentioned what I wanted and he included it in his allowance .... and if it's done you well, you tend to stick with it!

That Comma stuff sounds very similar so may well be what I switch to next!

I'm glad I got 3 tubs then when one of our local autofactors closed down. My eldest son swears by it.

Here's a better one https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/132701030920?r ... 2701030920
