Hi, already posted with electrical woes, Parts on order. Was wondering if anybody has done a rectifier upgrade using a mosfet type rectifier. Used on the R1 and numerous other bikes. Apparently generate much less heat, probably debatable as to there improved reliability. Anyway was wondering if it was worth a try, cheaper that oem one which is over £100. Bonkers money when the components parts cost pence.
The R1 mosfet type has only 5 connectors though, 3 for the sator and a +'ve and -ve, I'm assuming the unit itself earths to the frame?
I'm not an electrical wizz, its all the dark arts to me, but I was hoping the collective wisdom of the forum might shed some light.

Fitted a mosfet FH008EE rec.from a cbr600 to my futura last week and am very pleased with the result.Did away with the extra wires to the battery and am getting 14.3@ idle.Also noticed the three yellow wires to the stator are a lot cooler now.

A mate of mine did it on his custom RSVR as the old one was massively overheating under the seat unit. As far as I know he now doesn't have any problems

Have a look at Electrex. I upgraded the OEM reg/rect on the Futura soon after buying it; when I sold it nearly 7 years later, the Electrex unit still appeared to be functioning normally. Haven't heard from the new owner (Willopotamus, on here) that there's anything amiss in that department.

BTW, the replacement was a 'conventional', not a mosfet, unit. Futuras are notorious for frying their OEM reg/rects.
