Hi chaps - just been out doing some errands on the Tiger and noticed the throttle sticking once the heated grips have warmed up. It's an 09 bike with factory fit grips. Is it time to renew them? Will a squirt of WD40 help or damage? Anyone experienced this on their bikes?

I prefer to use a dry lubricant like graphite. If that's not available I use a silicone grease as it doesn't cause rubber items to swell.

Hot is an understatement. It's just started raining so cooled the air a bit. I'll be back in the uk in just over a week and apparently there's already snow on the ground in Scotland. I'm really not looking forward to the cold.

I'd be checking that your grips aren't doing something odd when they heat up.

WD 40 actually state that the product can damage rubber and some plastics

I'll get some graphite stuff I think.

I'd use red rubber grease, but then I've got some in the toolbox already.

If you've got silicone spray use that, it's not going to harm any rubber, that's what divers use on their sealing rings and I use it on brake seals and pool seals and it doesn't cause the rubber to swell.

The throttle tube should be a plastic/nylon material so not too susceptible to swelling.

Some forms of Nylon do absorb water, and swell.

I tend to use KY jelly as it doesn't cause nylon or rubber to swell but definitely has a swelling effect on other more natural materials.

The amount of swelling is directly proportional to how well you rub it in, apparently!

Don't really understand what the problem is! I quite enjoy a good Hot throttle!

I knew this would degenerate into such smut. You should be ashamed of yourselves for even thinking about it.

How do i get the jelly between the thin skin, where you grip it, and thick bit inside?
