I've been offered an ohlins rear unit from a 2003 Tuono. Apparently in good condition. Although I'm thinking it may aswell have a service before it gets bolted to mine.

A few things I wanted to know.
1) Will it fit my 2001 Falco?
2) Is £225 a bargain or should I try and haggle a bit off?
3) Where would anyone recommend for servicing it?

Depending which one it is you need the appropriate linkages
About the going rate I have always paid less
Never had one serviced

Recommed Revs Racing for the shock service. Thet are over your way too.

Yes talk to John at revs, he really knows his stuff.
You will need the correct dog bone and linkages. Check the bearings and pins are in good condition and greased.
A serviced ohlins shock fitted to a falco is one of the best mods ever.
The difference is day and night.
Finally you will need to have your accurate weight for the correct spring weight when servicing is being done.

Thanks all I'll google Revs and go from there. Not sure I'll buy this one as it looks a little tired. Paint flaking off the spring and the bush at the bottom is well worn so I guess it's at the end of its life anyway. I'm in no rush it's pretty much the last mod I'm planning on doing and it's not like ill be using the bike much if at all over the winter.

Try other makes or even a standard Mille one ?

He's very good, did both ends of mine. Does a lot of rebuilding and lowering work for local shops too. Reckons he can drop anything by 2 inches without buggering the handling. I know he's just sorted some forks from a local that a couple of decent non franchise mechanics couldn't make work.

They are only 20 mins from me so I could pick you up if you need a place to hide or overnight if you want to give them the bike rather than DIY.

One thing to consider though, a rebuild is gonna cost you somewhere in the region of 120 squids depending on if it needs a valve adding to re-gas it. Another 80ish for a spring if you need one and you're a good way towards the price of a new lower spec unit.

I paid 130 for a worn out yellow spring mille shock and the linkages to suit with the intention of getting it rebuilt and resprung because I think they're prettier than the low end aftermarket stuff. How about that offer you had of a 2nd hand one from the guy at the AP open day?

I've decided I'm going to leave it until spring next year. I've just paid out for a belly pan and rearsets so I'm not feeling overly flush at the moment. Besides I'm going to pack it away in the next few weeks for winter. Unless one comes up very cheap. I'll keep Revs in mind and speak to them before I part with a bundle of cash.

I asked a few people about the Nitron shocks and a few Internet searches put me off a little. Or at least I'd rather spend a little extra and get the best setup. After all I think this bike will be with me for a good few years.
