GT550 shocks

My trike needs new ones.

They seem to be available at all prices from about £45 to £120. Apart from Hagon being a well-known name (and expensive) how on earth can I tell which ones to get?

Was talking to a bloke at the weekend who said that the cheap ones 'don't last long' but he couldn't say how long that meant! I think he may be influenced by the fact that he runs a bike parts shop which caters generally for the smarter end on motorcycling! Not trying to sell me something expensive cos he's a good mate as well, in fact he suggested I should look at secondhand Harley ones. But I can't see the point of buying secondhand shocks, surely the whole point is that they wear out, so how would I know how worn out they were?

Anyone bought shocks for a GT? I'm not going to replace them with the original type of air shocks, just something that will do the job, bearing in mind I carry a lot of luggage and ride some fairly bumpy roads!

I can't advise on the particulars of any shocks you might be considering but there is a general truth in quality is worth paying for.

You can spend 25% on something cheap that you will need to bin in a few months or 4 times that on something that performs better and'l last for years. You also feel you have a right to kick ass if it doesn't and they have a reputation to loose by not making sure you are happy. Possibly get the Hagon's.....

So quality second hand is still quality and better than new crap. Tends to be what I go for.

Well! List price for the Hagon shocks is £109.50 with £30 postage - but I've just found them at LM Spares (dealt with them before) for £74.74 delivered! They better be the real deal though!

Ooops, got that wrong! The £74 ones were not Hagons - still, I found them for £109 with free delivery, can't be bad! Ordered now.

Hagons are good budget shocks. Most of the classic bike racers use them on anything from Seeley Nortons to replical RC164`s. When I asked why so many used them, the mad cloggy I asked, who was rebuilding the top end of his Gold star reckoned they worked and they were cheap.
I was goint to fit the Hagon nitro ones to my CBX but they dont do Honda forked ends so I went for Ikons, AKA Koni.

So all in all Hagons get the thumbs up.
