For what it's worth, I got an RSV Ohlins with adjustable everything last September off eBay for about £230, and a set of linkages for about £30, so I'd definitely set yourself up a search for 'Aprilia Ohlins' to notify your email address.
I actually put it on the bike this weekend just gone and it's quality kit. Everything fits just so; even the adjuster for the hydraulic preload locates perfectly on the RH footpeg hanger. You can tell the difference in quality between it and the Sachs shock just by looking at it.
My shock was off a 2003 RSV, with linkages/dogbones to suit. If you want to know 'what shock fiits whar' then this is the thread to consult:

Yeah - the Ohlins is good - sounds as though mango's got one of those nice aftermarket ones with the hydraulic pre-load (mine's just the standard one from the mille R)dyzio wrote:I'm trying to do this and spend as little as possible, silly, I know :),

My advice is to wait till one comes up at the right price in the right condition.
In the meantime the Mille Sachs is also a big improvement over the Falco's item. You can then sell it on once you've got the Ohlins. The Yellow spring mille sachs will share linkages with the ohlins from 2001 to 2003 so that's something you don't have to buy twice.
Of course if the ohlins comes up first, forget this intermediate step.
I did go down this route myself but the Sachs was never fitted before I got the ohlins (before you ask, it's long gone to another forum member)

Hey Mango, keep an eye on the hydraulic pre-load on your Ohlins. After many failed seals (caused I think by the excessive heat, being right next to the rear header) I had mine taken off. I was sick of looking at a pool of oil under the bike every weekend.
We never could (officially) get to bottom of the seals failing as everything looked fine every time I went back to Gareths with it. I hope you have more success.

Hi Rich - thanks for the warning - I'll keep an eye open for that. Was this on your Falco, or on the Tuono?
I'm intending to get the headers and pipes Cermakromed before I actually use the bike this year; hopefully that should substantially reduce the amount of heat soak the shock suffers.
I'll be a bit pissed off if I have to go back to twiddling C-spanners...

It was on the Falco M8, I have just a std Ohlins on the Tuono, but the rear header runs just as close.
The Ceramakrome should help enourmously though (if indeed that was the reason) you won't beleive how quickly the headers cool down after a run, just be careful that you don't touch the end cans though, I have the blisters to prove they still get very very hot (yes I am an idiot!)

I'm hoping the Cermakrome will make all the difference; from what you say it should. To be honest I suspect that the cans will run hotter than before; all that heat has to go somewhere!
I've had an Ohlins with hydraulic preload on my old VFR for 8 or 9 years now and it's still on its original seals, so I suspect it was heat from the header that was the problem on your Falco. I hope so, anyway...
(and I hope your hands are healing nicely, as well...)
