Bikes for the vertically challenged

#1 Post by Kwackerz » Sun Jun 10, 2012 5:15 pm

I've heard all the jokes so don't bother. Serious thread for once..

Now Im looking at spending 3 grand on a bike. CBR/GSXR/ZXR/R6 all fit me but I dont want one of those, I want something different from the rest of my mates at work who've all got them Ideally 750+ cc, Not a commuter and not a traillie type bike. Want something with a bit of oomph for the road but also something I can take round an inters trackday

Mille is on my list (and there's a lowering kit)

Shiver is high up the list (again adjustable for height thru the rear shock and the front forks thru the yokes)

Ducati Monster or 748 is another option although it's a last resort on the basis that it's a Ducati and to use a Gioism, Theyre crap.

Higher up from any Ducati is a Harley 883 Sportster, having seen Big Nige grinding footpegs on his full dresser Harley a few years back round Brands, it's a viable option.

Z750 Ive discounted as I hate the look of them, although they fit height wise..

Any other ideas? Hondas are being avoided btw. I have Sam's Honda to do up as it is, and the last 3 .. no, 4 Hondas I owned I gave away. Don't like 'em that much.

The monsters are pretty good. Davina has one and it has not let her down in the 3 years of ownership. I have rode it a few times and on the odd occasion have thrashed it.

She has had the seat sculptured out and we have had a new dog bone fitted (Davina's height is 4.11) and there has been no need to adapt the sidestand due to the lowering. Before the new linkage was fitted she had to tiptoe at a stop. The linkage has lowered the back by 1" and the forks have been pushed throught the yokes to compensate. She has not rode it this year but i was out on it last week and all was well with the handling.

My Gioism was more aimed at the 748.. Ive seen 'race tuned' ones with Bemsee getting their arse kicked by SV650s straight off the road with a racecan shoved on; theyre like the BMW316 of the bike world. Look good, Have the badge, but at heart theyre just a Ford Cortina.

The Monster is an option, one of the bigger engined ones and I wouldnt sniff at it in the slightest really. mate had one when they first came out and it was lovely although dont know about the performance? he just used to pootle round on his picking up whores down the strasse in Osnabruck... I guess theyve progressed since they first came out (the bikes not the whores) and I doubt theyre that slow when poked?

Awesome bikes. Snappy and Sheebs have both had them.
V Raptor.. hmm there's a thought..

Although with Sheebs and Snappy owning them, doesnt that class it as a girl's bike on here? :smt005

Going back to Rsquid's idea about the BM.. hmm hadnt even thought in that direction.. I shall go look into them.

BMW R1100S (2 round here for sale shortly); IIRC, they, or their seats, can be lowered. Ideally, Boxer Cup replica.

Harley 883 Sportster with 1200 conversion
It flies sideways through time
It's an electric line

If i had the cash I would buy that V-Raptor....I think they are sexy as fuck. It would get painted yellow though lol

If the clocks had not been damaged on the one i was gonna buy from D&K i would not have seen the Falco.

Only kidding about the colour....it would be black

Speed triple?

I reckon a Mille though - you have always wanted one

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I did think about a return to Triumph but.. nnyyaaaarr.. dunno. bit common after hanging about on RiderSite. Need something with soul and fire. I do like the Speed four and speed triple but.. I look at them and all i see is my old TT600 without a fairing and after trip to hein gericke.

Nuclear red.. hmm.. Mille in Nuclear red..

Yeah have hankered after a mille since 1999. although im trying to wean myself off that idea. I'd probably lose my license in about 3 hours.

Carl Harrison has a Biposto for a semi decent price

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/160798317258? ... 1423.l2648

Needs work and all I see it 'FORD'.. probably cos Ive got a Red transit van in fairness..

C and A at Lynn have a semi decent RSV and a not so decent price. 6 owners doesnt inspire me in the slightest.

http://www.candasuperbikes.co.uk/produc ... ts_id=1144

Value at Wymondham apparently have a 51 plate RSV at a decent price, probably a rat but theyre the best ones.

http://www.valuebikecentre.net/used-bik ... sp?ID=2327

Saw a half decent priced Shiver in Cambridge that was in good/average nick, but that swingarm? Ewwwww. I thought Maisto models copied real bikes, not the other way round?

Indeed the Mille is a tall bike (taller than the Falco).

What about a T675 ?
