2004 may be the date they were bought, but the manufacture date could be several years earlier. You need to check for a four digit numeric code on the sidewall. If (for example) it says 3003 it means the tyre was manufactured in the 30th week of 2003. As a rule-of-thumb, you should never use tyres more than 6 years old. The rubber in tyres degrades over time, irrespective of whether the tyre is being used or not.

Using old tyres (and the ones you are planning to use are 8 years old, minimum) is a Very Bad Idea. They may be cheap, but how much will it cost to repair the bike (and you) if it all goes Pete Tong...?

What tyres are they?

if theyre the same make and model tyre as were oe on the falco then probably just use them as doorstops.

Thanks for all the replies.
Think the best course of action is the 'no doubt ' course as far as tyres go.
Yes, Im mega skint, yes Im pissed off that the Eblag dispute is delaying £570 in blagger dispute dom
And NO I will never forget what its like blowing out a rear tyre on the M5 on my totally rebuilt BSA A7,wrestling the bike across 3 lanes, being flipped in the air and landing on my head seeing all three lanes of traffic stopped (upside down from my viewpiont)
I never got chance to thank the guy drivng behind me who saw the blow out,put on the hazard lights and stopped the traffic
He stopped but I was in shock
Thanks blokey 20 years later

If you know somewhere that will fit tyres fairly cheaply it can often be cheaper to buy them on line. I've found these one of the best places (at least when I bought last year):
What's more, until the end of the month, Pirelli have their annual cashback promotion going - £25 off the price of a pair. http://www.pirelli.com/tyre/gb/en/motor ... _cash_back

If on a budget - look at maxxis

Although the Pirellis seem a bit more expensive than a year ago (dunno how much maxxis have gone up) after the cashback my Pirelli Angels were not that much different in price to your maxxis if I recall.
However - check all options!

Thanks for all the info DR
The painful truth is I cant do jackshit untill Ebastard sort the ongoing nonsense with the Swedish blagger and my XL 600 lump
Waiting on payday again, then the car gets re tested as its far cheaper than the bus (55p a mile to get to work ! )
