This has to be worth copying to the forum.
£800,000 speed camera on Cat and Fiddle fails to catch a single biker
What a shame.

The cameras measure the average speed between fixed points on the 50mph road.... The system was installed last March after campaigners called for action over motorcyclists crashing on the hairpin turns.
So... doing no more than an average of 50mph over a big long stretch of road will stop bikers falling off on a 15mph hair pin bend how exactly??

My thought exactly!
Average speed has no connection whatsoever with rider skill!

Common, stop making "silly" comments about rider skills and the like, you all know you are guilty and getting away with it.
I think that we should just accept that as bikers we are all just lunatic speed freaks, who shoud be kept off the roads.
Perhaps it would help if we could all volunteer to pay for the installation of Honesty Boxes at each end, and after every "fun run" we could deposite 3 crisp twenty pound notes in the box in recompense for our obvious sins against society!

Average speeds certainly take no account of acceleration and braking times which are far less on a bike.

Even if they had got the location of the start and end points correct how long would it take for someone to set up a conveniently placed coffee van somewhere in the middle.
Ride like a nutter, stop for a coffee, ride like a nutter, average speed 13mph.
Of course, since the camera would clearly be doing its job there would be no need for any real police enforcement, so the likely outcome is that with that knowledge more risks could and would be taken and the accident figures would rise.
Another example of tax payers money well spent

Not a bad idea - if there was anywhere to put a van!
