There is a petition on the No 10 website against the proposed increase in motorcycle road tax that was announced recently in the pre-budget. The argument is that at a time when motorcycle sales are in steep decline, we don't need further, above inflation tax increases. You can find it at:

Cheers.

I hadn't heard they were going to raise this - it's beyond a joke!

Low emissions cars are already paying reduced road fund license fees or are exempt all together.
Low polluting bikes often pay more tax.

..... and at a time when we should be acknowledging their congestion reducing strengths it is madness to add such a disincentive.

What's more I can't believe that the petition ignores these things and only mentions the stimulating of demand in a depressed industry.

That said, obviously we should support the petition.

Sorry, I can't get terribly excited about such a small increase when other things are going up far more. Did anyone check what the proposed increase was before signing?
From 1 April 2010, VED rates for motorbikes in 2010-11 will increase by £4 in the highest band, and by £2 in the second highest band.

VED rates for motorbikes in the lower two bands will be frozen.

VED for Motorcycles: 2010-11 rates

Up to 150cc - £15

151-400cc - £33

401-600cc + £2 = £50

Over 600cc + £4 = £70

erm - principle??

think about it in terms of percentage as opposed to actual cash - and tie that to rate of inflation etc

then it stinks

What he said.

We're paying way more than enough considering how much room we take up, how much polution we make and how much damage we do to the roads. We're being pissed on from a great height, enough's enough.
