Throttle Cables

#1 Post by aspguitars » Mon Aug 17, 2009 1:19 pm

Hi! all and please excuse ignorance. I have an old 550 Zephyr that was in bits and I'm in the process of rebuilding it. The throttle has two cables, an accelerator and a deccelerater. unfortunately I can't seem to find any pics of which cable goes where. If anyone has any decent pics, I would be very grateful. The Haynes manual just says to mark them before you take them off. Not much good when they are already off.
Any help would be appreciated.

Im probably over-simplifying this, but cant you connect them up and test to see which way around opens the (CV?) carb?

i think you may well find that either one end is different to the other, or the tightening nut is different - ie, will only fit one way round....

not 100% certain but - have a close look

the aprilias look exactly the same, but they are different!

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I hate to make the obvious question, but have you tried turning the handgrip to see which cable moves which way when you twist it?

It's then a (simple) matter of hooking up the "open the throttle" cable to the attachment on the carbs and the "close the throttle" cable to the other side.

(Or at least that's how it was on my Honda.)
It's the V-twin thing. There's just something about it that inline-4s don't have at all, and V-4s don't have enough of.

Hi Asp

550 Zephyr?

I would be tempted to have a chat with Bikergran.

She runs..ran..runs.. a GT550 which I have a feeling may be of similar design carb wise..? (the engines are i believe) If she still has the blue beast then im sure she would come to your aid with photos or descriptions.

I can understand the problem youre suffering and sympathise although havent got a definate answer

Zephry Throttle Cables

#6 Post by aspguitars » Fri Aug 28, 2009 9:21 pm

Hi! all and thanks for the comments. As I said, the bike is in bits and I've only just fitted the carbs back on. The throttle cables are not on the bike yet. I think I have managed to sort it out now by checking an old Kawasaki Workshop manual that shows the position of all cables and wiring harnesses.
If only it was as easy as twisting the throttle!
