Failed MOT!

#1 Post by BikerGran » Fri Sep 05, 2008 10:38 am

Trike failed the MOT today - but only on the handbrake. I wasn't sure whether it was good enough although I worked on it yesterday - but I thought he might let it go as I have independent front and rear braking systems anyway, but they just don't have any discretion nowadays.

I was pleased that my adjusting of the rear brakes did the trick cos they wouldn't have passed last week. (Trickier than bike brakes cos you have to get them balanced, and with a Reliant rear the fluid goes to one side first, then on to the other)

But I'm kicking myself now for riding 9 miles in the filthiest weather imaginable just to get a fail when I wasn't sure about it anyway - I should have cancelled yesterday, told them I was sick or something! Anyone know if there's a fee for cancellation?

Anyway I got to get it fixed and re-tested quick cos I'm off to the NABD rally next weekend!

So much for giving up spannering!

no you should'nt get charge for cancelling, it's down to the garage if and what they charge you for a retest but do'nt go over the 10 days before you go back for your retest or you will have to have a full test done.

suggestion re the brakes

is expensive but - use two braided hoses from the resevoir - works on our gt750/reliant robin trike.... and is a damn sight easier to set up and bleed :)

Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

Brakes are ok mate - they didn't fail, only the handbrake - I know what I did wrong there but will have to get my son-in-law to come up and help me as it's a three hand job!
