Now I know before I start that some will immediately reply that petitions are a waste of time - but now I've expressed that some have this view, maybe we can move on ...

Background
I'm sure everyone is aware that Boris Johnson pledged to open London's Bus Lanes to motorcycles should he become mayor.
He's become mayor - and now he seems to be wavering due to the cycling lobby (despite the fact that the stats suggest they too will be significantly safer if motorcycles share bus lanes).

So this is time to remind Mr Johnson of his pledge and the fact that he needs to honour it.

London's bus lanes are seen as a key to opening up the country's bus lanes - so, wherever you live, this affects you.
For the safety of my kids learning to ride, for other inexperienced riders and for the increased convenience for us more experienced riders I think it has to be a good thing. I do ride a bicycle (not as regularly as my motorcycle - but it still gets ridden) and understand the issues cyclists have - but I really can't get my head round their concerns on this.

So, whether you want to have use of the bus lanes or just want to remind a politician that we don't like them reneging on promises, please sign the petition to make your voice heard.

The cycling lobby has already submitted a petition of 3,500 signatures - the motorcyling one stands at about 1,000 so far - so it's time to get people signing.

Done, I would have liked to see more in the way of involvement from bicycle riding motorcyclists.

I belong to a cycling forum and tbo they have their heads buried in the sand as well. Made myself very popular saying he should do what he says and not be bullied by stupid cyclists who ignore traffic lights and think its their divine right to.

EIGHTEEN MONTH TRIAL PERIOD FFS

What a cop-out !

They've ALREADY done the trial and demonstrated the benefits.

So that will mean a 2 - 3 year delay before it comes to a "bus lane near you" (unless you live in London or somewhere that already allows this)
No council is going to consider this until the London trial is complete, published and argued over.

How many injuries and deaths will be suffered that could have been prevented?

Sorry I don't aqree with you. A trial period will in my opinion confirm what Boris has said for the last year and destroy the head up the arse attitude of all bicycle riders opposed.

I'm not arguing that a Trial Period is a good thing ..... the thing is, THEY'VE ALREADY HAD THE TRIAL PERIOD and reviewed the data it produced. The cycling lobby and some local authorities are just ignoring the data - so I fail to see how 18 months more data is going to help.

NOTHING will destroy the attitude of those people. They are impervious to any data that doesn't confirm their own beliefs.

They do that themselves ...... it's called Lycra (along with those silly hats they wear - the ones that are supposed to stop them hurting themselves when they fall off - I've fallen off a few push bikes in my time mainly thrashing round tracks in woods - I've known plenty of other people who have fallen off of bikes - I have never met a single person that has landed on the bit of the head that these silly hats cover .... hands and faces are a different story though .....)
