Does it matter if a bike is stolen/recovered?

I'm looking at a KLR at the moment which was stolen, hooned around the woods and then recovered and the damage repaired. The insurers coughed up and the fella is now selling through a local dealer.
I am just wondering how this 'history' may affect any future resale.
Presumably this would come up on an HPI type check but what about the logbook?
Would this sort of information put any of you off buying it ( assuming you wanted one in the first place)?

It would warrant me to look elsewhere first unless i was looking for a bike by price..
A damaged repaired bike can and often are rebuilt perfectly well. Look at that and another not stolen recovered repaired bike together and theyre the same standard, so in reality should command the same price.
The bit that upsets the mind is the fact it's been stolen recovered and possibly ragged all over the place. You almost expect it to break sooner than the other.
As a result they can often go for less, often quite unfairly for the bike. The KLR was thrashed? We dont know, can only assume. it mightve been stolen and ridden quite normally for a KLR. Not all thieves are up to the level of taking a crosser to the redline offroad... which is what it's designed for in all honestly..
Would I buy one? I have done before,twice, admittedly a 100cc Kwack and a KX125 kwack.. I thrashed both better than the thieves ever did.
Theyre my view on the subject anyways.
The category change.. It'll show on the HPI, cant remember about the Logbook, I think so.. Sam may be able to let you know from the Van he's got.

If it gives you doubts, then it will give others doubts. So that means there will be fewer customers for it, but provided its in good nick, someone will always buy whatever the history.

Why would anyone want a KLR, piece of crap imo if you're over 17

Yeah I looked at these issues and saw them more as a 'glass half full' than 'half empty'.
Nothing much to worry about other than the camchain tensioner which is an easy fix.
18 y.o. engine in low state of tune = bulletproof.
Bags of torque.
And it's good and tall so it suits my lanky frame
Shame it's green!
And anyway what's wrong with feeling 17 again eh Gio?
As for the stolen thing I will be inclined to overlook it if the price is right which it isn't at the moment. If this information only becomes evident upon doing an HPI check then by the time I need to shift it the value will be low enough to mean most punters wouldn't bother.... perhaps?

As long as you don't get the agro that goes with starting all over again, nothing. I'd not like to be 17 again, all those crap years working
