I was thinking about which bikes could replace the Falco as a one-bike-does-it-all for me and couldn't really come up with anything.... so.....perhaps someone has a suggestion of one....

OR.....

We put together our imaginary perfect bike and see which real world bike comes closest.

For example I need something that can cover 500 miles in a day reasonably comfortably. Now for me that would mean leaning forward behind a mid height fairing for protection from windblast and avoiding the numb arse I get from upright bikes.

BUT - It would also be nice if once I arrived in town it was nice and relaxed (upright?) for slow speed exploring/getting lost. To my mind some instantly adjustable handlebars are the answer here. At low speeds there is no longer any need to hide behind a fairing and the change in riding position would be a welcome relief to most people I'm sure.

I wouldn't consider an engine smaller than say 800cc. In most situations I would love a twin - especially for easy Autoroute mile munching / lairey mountain hairpin frolicks and of course the entertainment value to liven up dull roads.

BUT - it's not always the best engine for slow town riding. Are boxer twins any better at this?

Obviously it needs to do 40/50 mpg plus and have a 200 mile range.

A metal tank would be nice for magnetic tank bags.

Proper road wheels please as no serious off roading would be on the cards surely.

Sensible exhaust exits so that a variety of luggage can be considered and plenty of bungee points.

Pillion carrying ability I guess would be nice as would easily adjustable suspension (remote)

If it could have a centre stand and not look silly / still have good ground clearance.

Let's have your ideas......

Get a Pan European, almost as fast as the Falco, carries more, is comfortable and its not bad looking.

Plus Honda built quality.

Bah, I'm a spritely 53, there must be someone older than me here who owns a Falco.

The perfect bike would be them jetbikes as seen in 'Return of the Jedi'

Instead of changing the bar height, the seat could be lowered to achieve a different posture. A quickshifter could dispense with the gearchange and thumb brake for the back so the footpegs could be easily moved forward for the town cruise. or auto box with a tiptronic thingy for the mental moments.

You own that? I think it may be missing some of the engine output requirements - unless 250cc 2 strokes have developed recently ( although there's nothing recent about that MZ)

I have had worse....My first bike was a CZ250 twin.

Not a lot of poeple knew that till now...... and I have not got (or had any desire to take) a photo of said peice of shit
