Falco Aprilia Racing Exhaust dba lavel

#1 Post by Loui » Wed Jul 11, 2007 9:28 pm

Alrighty forum people! :smt001

I have a standard 2001 Falco but also have a pair of Aprilia Racing open exhausts and the ecu chip. Any ideas how loud this would be in terms of decibel level?

The Racing exhausts are too loud for the road :smt018 but may be OK for the track. They make a difference to performance, and I'd like to take the Falco with them fitted to Pembrey this year. :smt016 Need to be around 105 dba.

Cheers all
Loui

Hi there Loui - good to have another Falconeer here (and one brave enough to post outside the safety of the Aprilia part of the site!)
Regrettably I don't know the answer to your question.

I guess you could always take a set of universal dB killers with you just in case it's a bit too loud.

Hi Loui! Welcome to RS and ARS.

Open pipes eh.. As much as you can guesstimate the cans' decibels, chances are you'll get stung at Pembrey with one of the noise meters, It's almost guaranteed they wont be accurate with measureing at 3500 rpm, at a set distance, etc, etc and chances are they'll just take one look, shake heads and fob you off. DB killers are most definately a worthwhile investment to avoid disappointment.

Chucking em in shows willing and wont really affect your trackday.

Thanks both, did not know that sort of thing existed, they look ideal

Anybody have any experience of fitting them? :smt017

Cheers

They usually just push straight in then are secured with a nut n bolt thru a drill hole in the lip of the can outlet.. just be careful not to push them right in cos they can jam in quite tight and prove awkward to remove afterwards.

If you're worried about damaging or scratching the can when drilling the hole thru, just centrepunch where you want the hole, pilot hole it with a thin drill bit then use the bigger, correct size afterwards. Helps stop mad drill scratchmarks all over the can as you fight to hold it in the place youre trying to drill.. :smt002

I have Wolf straight through cans on my track falco and it was noise tested at cadwell at 102db. (left the sticker on the fairing and they didnt bother testing it at croft, bonus) I take a pair of standard cans aswell though, just incase :smt002

I got one from here

http://www.performanceracingparts.co.uk ... asp?cat=21

but it took about 2 weeks to arrive

I also got an Akro one from a bloke in Germany on ebay as i gave up waiting - he does 2 sizes - arrived in about 3 days

Didn't know Pembrey bothered with noise testing though

got a renagade on my SV650, and thought it was a bit loud at first, its actually not, it sounds quite nice.
the SL carbons on the Falco are LOUD, running std cans at the moment, but would like to quiten the carbons as a halfway house, they make the bike stop and turn quicker as they are much lighter.

don`t know the actual Db but a mate of mine was coming round, and as he walked up the rd he was looking up in the air, as he though he heard one of them twin rotor chinook helicoptors. got round the corner and realised it was my Falco warming up :smt003

Oh and 98dB is the limit for things like Donnington or Brands 'Quiet' days. It is lower on the road.. unless you ride a really old bike..
