What's your motorcycle security setup?

Thieving scrotes are still rife (at least in London they are).

So what's your security setup where you leave your bike overnight and if you use your bike to go to work or leave it parked in the day, what do you use?

Me: My bike's parked in my garage overnight, sometimes chained to a ground anchor or just with a disc lock front and rear. It usually has a cover over it too, mainly to stop it getting dusty but also so that anyone looking in can't easily see what I've got.

Out and about, I always use a disc lock for quick stop-offs (like grabbing a bit of shopping). When I had a scooter I carried a 16mm Pragmasis chain under my seat and a cover and was pretty happy leaving it overnight but I wouldn't leave the bike overnight anywhere outside. :smt070

How about you?

Garaged at home (garage integrated into house alarm) with 19mm Pragmasis chain to ground anchor.
Out and about 13mm chain - to bike park post.

Garage at home (unfortunately only wooden, but the strongest wooden workshop I could get), with Pragmasis Shed Shackles on each wall (unfortunately Pragmasis are shutting up shop - great shame).

I've always managed to get away with running bikes that no-one wants to nick... ;) :D

The only bike I've had stolen was my Puch Magnum X a couple of years ago when scrotes broke into said wooden workshop (prior to proper security being fitted ... grrrrr). It was the bike I learnt to ride on when I was 9, I'd only just got it going again after 40-ish years of being parked up. :( I was gutted.

Good topic — always worth revisiting with how things are going lately.

At home, I use a combination of a ground anchor and an Almax Series IV chain, plus a disc lock as backup. I also throw a cover over the bike — makes a surprising difference, especially for opportunistic thieves.

When I'm out, I carry a compact disc lock and sometimes a small cable lock to loop through my helmet and jacket if I'm walking away for a while. If it's going to be parked somewhere sketchy for long, I try to position it near CCTV or high foot traffic areas.

The best security still seems to be layering — nothing’s perfect, but multiple deterrents help.
