When I first saw the new electric Harley the Livewire, I thought to myself "Why the hell are Harley bringing out an electric bike? Surely electric, with its lack of noise and 'raw iron', is going to be the death of Harley?"
Then a few weeks later it struck me. Were Harley quick to launch a road-going electric bike (way before the Japanese manufacturers) so that 50, 60, 70 years from now they have a great marketing message where they can talk about their 'electric heritage'?
After all, isn't that what petrol-engined Harleys have been trading off for years?

Ha! You make a good argument!

Very clever marketing!
Harley stopped making the watercooled VRod Muscle because the purists didn't like it but then they produced the watercooled 750, they can see the changing market
