One of the lads at work asked me to service his bike a few months ago. Oil and filter changed and cleaned the air filter. (K and N)
He told me to take the bike for a ride for the afternoon. But with it being an inline 4 I must admit I wasn't too botheted, but then thought that after all it's a bike and a different riding experience.
It took about ten miles to settle in to riding this bike and decided to open up.
For an old carb model motorbike I couldn't believe just how fast it was, and for an inline 4 the torque it produced.
It was light and nimble and changed direction so fast.
I think I might have to bite the bullet and buy one. It really impressed me that much.
The power delivery is also awesome. It pulls from 40 in top gear up to 140 mph in such a short space it's truly mental.
I've ridden a busa before which as you will know was quick. But I honestly think the R1 was faster up to 140. It's such a great bike.
And low mileage bikes for 2k it's got to be a bargain.
I also would love to ride one on track just see what it's really.like.
Fantasic bike.

I am not really a Jap in line 4 fan but....
R1's and R6's are a bit sexy and a bit good.

I rode one of the early R1s as (at the time) I'd bought quite a few bikes from this dealer and they were keen to keep me interested. I was very impressed with the way it accelerated and the grunt available but never quite got round to signing up for one. It's weird - I've been tempted by a number of IL4s - R1, ZX7RR, GSXR750, but have never been able to commit to buying one. I've never owned an IL4 and at this stage of the game it's looking unlikely I ever will.

Singles, twins, V4s - yes. Perhaps I need a triple in my life... :smt003

A good few years ago I was given an R6 courtesy bike.
After having converted my brain to needing a ridiculous number of revs to pull away, I soon got into it.
It was so nimble.
When I got the Falco back, it seemed like a supertanker in comparison. That was before I spent time upgrading those parts that improve handling but the R6 was a brand new bike in standard trim.

I've had both twins, a v4 and il4's and i much prefer the il4, my old carbed blackbird would pull in top gear from 20mph and once it was modified was just so easy to ride.

I have a Z1000SX at the moment and it will pull like a train from 20mph in top all the way to the max (don't know what that is officer, honest) ABS, traction control etc. The downside is it's so bloody boring, I could cry. What I (as in my back) needs, is this bike with a lovely V-Twin engine.... Never mind, the Falco's nearly done - Bars above the yokes and Pensk shock, just waiting for the slightly longer Goodridge hose to arrive and we're off :smt003

My pal had a gen1 R1 and I loved it.

At the time I was running one of the first GSXR 750 SRADs - carbs not injection. Hell that was a good bike. Rising in value now too if you can find an unmolested one.

I remember sitting on the first R1 at a bike show in Amsterdam (in 1997, I think). We were there, so was the bike show so we went along, unaware that this groundbreaking new bike had just been released. I couldn't believe how unbelievably tiny it was compared to the litre bikes of the day. It was very obvious that it was going to be a sales sensation.
