Spring Lunacy II

#1 Post by HisNibbs » Sun May 01, 2016 8:15 pm

Oh no done it again.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1992-BMW-R100 ... 7675.l2557

So that just about makes the set. Don't think I need an RT as the RS has a big enough fairing for me. Any ho this was bought for those trips we are planing on when I retire. Thought I best buy one now as prices on this model are rising, in fact I've been thinking for a while that a decent one for under 5K would be too good to miss. I had also been looking at a k1300s to replace tha already too fast Falco, so this was obviously the "sensible" option.

So that's four complete bikes and enough bits for about another two BMs. The wife is not best pleased and I'd better tidy up the garage in case she needs to get in there at some point.

Got it back home now and so far i'm happy with it. A couple of small cosmetic blemishes but other than that all good. I've yet to give it a proper run as I couldn't arrange insurance today. I'm thinking this will pobably be the steed of choice for the Marches meet.

Chuffed. First ride on it this evening and it is very nice. I think the carbs need a bit of balancing and it is a bit hard to get on the center stand but other than that luverly.

Been using it for the daily commute and it is ideal for the bumpy single track back roads that involves. Pretty good on the wider roads too. Add to that 325 miles before going onto reserve. So I'm very pleased with it.

That's not a motorbike, that's a petrol tank on two wheels... How big is that tank?

Filling it up after 350 miles was just under 35 Liters.

Whats the seat like?
The standard one on a GS1200 is total crap, its like a wet sponge in a loose pair of knickers.
I hate it when people ask if you have a bathroom, I want to say "No we pee in the garden"

Yours or just a general statement ? I have to say I've only just got round to looking at it and it is a lot nicer than I expected.
I did have a share in an R80 when they first came around and never took to it mainly because I preferred the guzzi that was traded in and it was just too refined for me but that does look so much nicer than the one we had
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

Not done a long run on it yet and have not fitted the dual seat at all. The single seat feels a bit soft and short for my liking so I'll be trying the dual seat out at some point.

Daft as it sounds I do recall the r80 stalling and the dealer saying it was quite common and just needed you to tap the carbs with your boot
