Just read the following on a website I frequent. Still to find a link or read the article..

Just been reading this months edition of Mens Health (pg 139)and it reckons that spraying WD-40 on your car tyres gives much better grip in wet weather.

Apparently the DVLA also reckon that that doing so could avoid 15% of motor vehicle accidents on wet roads.

Like I said.. still to read the article for myself... But the addition of WD40 to car tyres.. well.. it's going to end up on the roads.. which does our two wheeled world absolutely no favours!

Or am I missing something? Like 4 months..and it's actually April the 1st?

Its obvious - WD40 disperses water so must work on tyres.

Sounds a bit dodge to me....

WD40 = lubricant (easy tiger) = less friction = no grip. It might displace the water (by taking its place) but WD40 is still itself slippery (as a lubricant should be). What would you rather ride over, water or oil?

WD40 is also good smeared across a visor in the rain.

I often spray my shoes on a wet day before walking to work - works a treat.

I remember reading that WD40 only displaces moisture for a limited time and then almost unbelievably it starts to attract moisture.
The writer (I'm still looking for the thread) knew his stuff and went into great detail about how the chemical this & that worked.
But basically if you don't re-apply it on a regular basis it actually works against you, what happens to it on a tyre is beyond me, but cars don't have a 1/4" contact patch, so there's no way I'm ever going to try it, sounds like a complete wind up to me

WD-40 on a tyre softens it up and makes it slightly tacky. I use it all the time to change tyres on my dirt bike , spray it on the rims and on the wall of the tyre and it goes on a treat then when it dries the tyre is practically stuck to the rim.
Would I use it on a road bike I don’t think so.

There is one advantage to spraying your tyres with WD 40, you won't want to ride the bike, therefor saving tyre replacement as well as road tax, insurance and servicing
