whats the outer piston doing apart from pushing the center piston up, ? but on saying that it is pulling the con rod round but this energy is wasted as the center piston is pushing the con rod down and pushing the outer piston up , and that bearing in that connecting arm thingy is doing alot of hard work , dont see the bearings lasting to long there, and after you connect all the valve timming gear i dont think the loss weight of 4 connecting rods will make a difference,
i think there should be more time evolving the rotery engine ,

I think that it should be well balanced - and maybe like honda's NR, allow a large valve area for the capacity.
The pumping forces in the crank case are probably well neutralised too.
