The ultimate review?

Since I bought the falco I have often wondered what the differences would be between the Mille Gen1, The falco and finally the futura.

I managed to get a ride on Martdudes futura last year at the "Not a wake meet". And found the bike a pleasure to ride.

It has been no secret that I have been doing some work on tims mille over the last couple of weeks and I intend to take for MOT tomorrow.
So with this in mind I decided to take it for a quick run out and see if everything feels ok with the bike.
Apart from the obvious.... Riding position Etc , I wanted to see the obvious differences in the tuning characteristics of the motors.

The futura mille and falco engines are not worlds apart through the low Rev range. And pull well from low revs respectively.
The futura stays the same all through the rev range delivering the power very smoothly. The bike is no slouch though and in no time at all you can hit 80 mph.
The Falco seems to have a little more sense of urgency over the futura and pulls slightly better from 3000 RPM.
The mille is identical to the falco until the motor hits 6000/6500 RPM.

This is when a very noticeable difference comes in and the power surge is like a power band on a two stroke. Not a massive difference but you can tell why this was the Aprilia flagship bike.
Summary.
Having the choice I would be quite happy to own the futura and mille either has a single use only bike.
They are totally different but equally a pleasure to ride as the falco.

Over the last few weeks I have done the sprag and clutch jet on tims bike.
When the bike arrived it had a Gabro chip fitted. The chip was definitely not set up for this bike. The smell of fuel going through the engine it was way too rich.
Through tims instruction I fitted a different aftermarket chip. Again it was running too rich
I decided to fit the standard chip.
The bike runs lovely and smooth all the way through the Rev range.

On a final note..... Tim if you want to send the log book through. I would be very happy to own this bike. :smt036

In fairness, the bike was still running the chip for the open airbox and cans from before the fire engine incident..

£2800 would buy a suitable stamp to send the V5 up country.. maybe..

failing that I'll see you on the 28th :smt003

blah blah blah... all i hear is white noise... :smt020

Yup passed the MOT with an advisory on the brake pads being low....

:smt002

Normality resumed

Oh and I will be ordering some new pads.

Any preferences for standard discs? I recall EBC green stopping well but wearing the discs due to their pad composition? (this is a sensible question btw) or shall I just stick with standard?

Yes, EBC green do stop well, but I recall them being aggressive on discs (particularly iron discs). In terms of price EBC are probably your best bet. I use Performance Friction (PFC 95) but they are horribly expensive. They do play nice with your discs, though and give good feel at the brake lever.

I had a Mille after my Falco and didn't expect much difference power wise but there most definitely was. The Mille was a lot more urgent and certainly quicker. However, the Falco was probably more relaxing to ride so made more real world sense although the Mille was fantastic on track. I sold it though this year as it always felt it would bite if you weren't 100% committed riding it (never had that with the Falco). I've become sensible and bought a 954 FireBlade, mad power, speed wise its phenomenal but its so easy to ride (I'll probably lose my licence!). No 'character' though.
