OK you lot so you dont like the idea of slotting into a category. I can understand that. But I still bet that you lean more towards one type of bike use than to another.

FWIW what triggered the question was thinking about how I use my bike. I dipped out of bike ownership for 4 years and bought a sportscar instead, but for reasons I cant explain I found I never went out in the sports car just for the sake of going out, as I used to do on my bikes. Always had to have a purpose for the journey. In contrast, a nice sunny day and a pass out from SWMBO sees me off into the beacons with a sandwich in the top box.

So to repeat the question:

" So given a free sunny day and your bike, what do you enjoy? ".

Well in that case I'm a number 4 - a commuter ........... but you don't buy a Falco if you only plan to commute .........

I think there are a number of other categories missing and they pidgeon-hole far too much as many of us turn our bikes to a wide variety of duties.

As for the people on here, (and a bit of an over-generalisation this will be too) compared to many we tend to appreciate our bikes almost as much for the machines they are and can become as we do for riding them.
Many of us enjoy the technical challenges of maintaining and improving our machines - and enjoying the fruit of our labours as we then ride them to and from work, on longer journeys and as we meet up (physically and on-line) with like-minded people.

I guess we all modify / tittivate our bikes to some extent. I've just spent an hour trying to prevent my bike throwing up mud / water etc onto the back of my left leg. Always knew that bit of old conveyor belt would come in useful. Patent applied for.

In my case, and I suspect others', that's only due to financial constraints

Former commuter and dispatch rider who races old 2 strokes (even in the rain), hate loud exhausts, and did the IAM bit. Got the gray hair but no beard. So part 1, 4,6 and 8 then :smt017

Really, none of your categories come anywhere near decribing me when I was on 2 wheels.
I had - and have - no beard, no fringes, no huge boots, I was never a commuter cos riding to work was done the long way, no ally panniers, loud exhaust, no back patch and definitely no sam brown!

Just a 'road bike' (that covers the RXS100, the 400 Superdream AND the GT550 I reckon) with some old soft panniers someone else threw out, and me in a waterproof workmens jacket, going somewhere - all sorts of somewheres!

On a free sunny day you will find me out enjoying my bike.
That means always trying to improve my skills, always aware of deaf, dumb, blind car drivers ect.,
I may not always adhere to the letter of the law but I do not overtake on double white lines or subscribe to similar stunts.
I dont do hi viz but I make sure Im visible ( HID light )
So i will tick boxes 11, 23, 104, 19, 54 blah blah blah
Cleverly disguised as an adult !

I did 410 miles on Sunday.

I did (only) 27 miles the previous week.

I did 454 miles the week before.

All for fun because I don't commute on the bike - my tools don't fit.

All done on Tess because Bess is laid up for some well deserved R&R (and some mods :smt002 ).

So you decide where I fit because I honestly don't know.
I'm right 98% of the time so why worry about the other 3%?

There's one thing about this thread. It makes me realise why we're all here. We're just people - reasonably intelligent people - who like bikes.

And like other people.

Forgot to add that next Saturday we'll (the boss likes going pillion on Tess) be going for chips at Lytham. On the bike of course.

I like chips so that puts me in the FB category. :smt003

Again, I'm not sure I fit the given categories.

1 out of 4 is not good. I'm guessing you like bikes though.
Don't put off 'till tomorrow what you can enjoy today
