Hein Gericke - going, going . . ?

#1 Post by MartDude » Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:15 pm

Just read that Hein Gericke UK are in administration, as of yesterday

"Hein Gericke (UK), whose head office is in Harrogate, saw Moorfields Corporate Recovery move in as administrators yesterday.
Moorfields are hoping to sell the company, which is separate from the German parent, but which last year lost £1.3 million.
At this stage it's not certain what will happen to the 49 stores that
exist in the UK and of course the staff employed who make their living from motorcycling.
The wider economic conditions aside, one must ask how the fall in those accessing motorcycling through our new convoluted testing and training regime may have contributed to this.
It was at the start of the summer that the George White chain of shops closed and the end of last year when that other famous brand, Frank Thomas, folded."

When I was the UK importer of a top brand of leathers from Germany, I met Hein Gericke in person whilst attending a trade launch in Cologne, albeit quite a few years back.

He absolutely detested the British due to the fact that his parents were bombed during the last days of the war, which is why I was surprised when branches opened up here in the UK.

That said, the quality of product sold in their German stores was always far superior to what was sold here in the UK.

my only sympathies are with those that will lose thier jobs.
Over priced, over rated, average quality tat that some how managed to identify with those weak willed fools that think because they are paying way too much they are buying into ' brand snobbery'

They are now, but 20 years or so ago when they first opened in the UK, the UK operation was owned by the parent company back in Germany

So do you think it's possible that the individual stores might survive?

For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
