Not sure if this is a wise move, but, I've just started negotiations on a BMW K100, someone's unfinished project. Think it's the RS, but not sure as yet.

Going to have a look tomorrow afternoon.
Possibly a bit late in the day to be asking this, but - does anyone here have any experience of K100s? Anything I should be aware of/look out for?

I'm aware it was almost certainly built to run on leaded petrol - I don't know yet if it's been modified to use unleaded. Anyone any recent experience of lead substitute additives?

Fut is not for sale; the K - if I get it - is just for lols, & something to do. Had an R65 & R100RS, never had a K, so thought I'd give it a go.

Im fairly sure that ' lead replacement' type stuff wont be needed on a K.
I had a 79 R100 RT that had no problems with that new fangled semi skimmed petrol stuff when it came out

Well, I've bought it. Or rather, left a deposit on it (strange phrase that, if you consider it).
It's a K100 RS, the Special Edition, I think, as it has a belly pan.
It's more complete than I expected - engine's back in the frame, which is a bonus. The wirin look a bit iffy in places - splices, chafed insulation, some 'add-ons' - but I suppose that's to be expected on a 28-year old bike. As far as I'm aware, the only bits that need replacing immediately are the front wheel bearings & battery. The front indicator lenses are cracked, but serviceable pro tem, and the screen could do with replacing, for aesthetic/cosmetic reasons, but it'll be OK for now. Has its pannier brackets, but no panniers - yet. Mart can't have a bike without panniers.
The frame's been powder-coated - looks a good finish; the wheels have recently been powder coated as well - a nice gold, which goes well with the deep blue with which the bodywork's been resprayed. The aluminium castings - engine, final drive, hub etc - have been nicely cleaned & polished - will have to look into a suitable coating - any recommendations?
I'll be collecting it the weekend after next - when we've got the new additional slabbed area done, which Gill didn't realise was for additional bike parking

Right, I've signed up to the BM Bikes forum; time, I think, to dig out the old Sam Browne and cultivate the beard a little more.
