The "Show Plate" trade from Jersey & Guernsey will quadruple over night..
Wherever there is a law (especially a road traffic one) there is a way around it. Me.........I have a son who works for Halfords and plenty of friends "off shore" I'll always be OK for a number plate whatever the size needed.
I've run small plates on all my bikes for last 17yrs and never been fined, even when stopped. The reason? although my plate is small it isn't taking the p**s (well thats my theory)

Nooj wrote:A load of us asked about small plates at police Bike Safe day a few years back and were told it's to do with road safety. The number plate is a large reflective surface on the back of your bike and therefore aids safety.
So how come it's not a legal requirement to wear a hi-vis vest of a certain size at all times when out on a bike then?
What a load of police bollox. If that were the case then:
- * there would be no need for the requirement to carry a reflector
* the requirement would only be for the plate size not the text size ... with bigger fonts taking up more of that "valuable" reflective area
Do they really think we're stupid enough to believe that!

i look forward to riding my 1959 francis barnett with its black rear plate as has no rear reflective capability
just a damn shame it will not break any speed limits!
Let's face it, you wouldn't go to a nurse to get good advice on a problem with a Falco - you'd choose an Engineer or a mechanic...

I might be wrong but I think that you can only keep the original plate on the original bike. If you transfer the registration to another vehicle, you need a plate that conforms to the new regs.
