The beurocrats seem to be doing their best to get their fingers in the pie as to what bits and pieces should be on our bikes in the future …. But, I was wondering, what do WE really want? … and what do we really not want.
I hope this thread can be one where people can post up things that they would really like rather than it turning into an endless slagging of proposals for speed limiters, air bags, leg protectors and chipped number plates and the beurocrats themselves – but it’s fair to mention these things as long as it doesn’t get out of hand.
Think about the next 5, 10 and 20 years – what would make your bike/kit better, what would make your riding (alone and in groups) more pleasurable. Don’t worry if we haven’t yet got the technology to make these things.
…. And why am I asking:
1) I’m interested in what we all think about this
2) It’s about time we kicked off another discussion topic
3) At work I’m responsible for a new R&D initiative looking at future vehicle technology (predominantly electronic based – and particularly information, communication and safety systems) … so I thought it’d be sensible to include the views of a few more people that may have some opinions about what’s appropriate and what’s not …. and not least to get some appropriateness with the safety systems …

Loud Exhausts
Big tyres
Really decent lights.
No Plates with the tax and MOT details contained within, however all done in such a manner as to make electronic reading only 'do-able' by certain readers (help prevent cloning, etc)
Electronic speedometer with a colour change screen and a loud beeper for when you exceed a speedlimit. It, itself collecting this info from fully updated Govt. GPS system info. Say a green lit display for within limits smoothly changing to Bright Red when you do go over. Hopefully it will then reduce the number of speeders in built up areas.
Other than that? reduced insurance shemes for compliance with the above.

If anything I'd like to see a retrograde step.
Bikes are too easy to ride fast. I'm comparing the Falco to the old GSX1100.
The Suzuki is a real involved ride and feels like you're really giving beans. Same involvement on the Falco is only achieved at mental speeds.
All new bikes should have a hinge in the frame, super hard (non grippy) tyres and drum brakes.
