Quiz Night - Saturday 25th October, 2014

I wondered whether anyone (particularly those not far from Coventry) might be interested in a Quiz Night that my wife & I are hosting on Saturday 25th October.
You may recall that each year we run a fund raiser for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. This year we are having a quiz night which we hope will be fun in its own right.

You can come as a team (4 to 6 people) or you can come individually and join a team with others on the night.
There will be prizes for the quiz and prizes for a raffle

Entrance is £5 per person and includes light refreshments.

• (If you can let me know beforehand whether you hope to attend, that will help us to prepare the right amount of refreshments - but if you make a last minute decision to come, that's fine too)

  Venue: Queen's Road Baptist Church, Grosvenor Road, Coventry. CV1 3FE
  Entry Fee: £5 per person
  
  How to find it:
  Currently it's a little harder to find than usual due to the closure of parts of Junction 6 of Coventry Ring Road.
  The sketch below (GreenRoute) shows how to reach the venue from the direction of Warwick Road / Central Six shopping park.
  The Blue Route followed by the Green Route shows how to find it when approaching anti-clockwise on the Coventry Ring Road

Just a quick update:

The quiz evening went well and as a result of the evening plus other donations, £1,059 has been raised for Breakthrough Breast cancer.

All money vitally needed.

We have rightfully been reminded that 453 British troops died in Afghanistan over the 4 years that the UK was involved in the conflict - a tragedy for every one of them plus their families and friends.

In that same 4 year period, for every one of those members of the forces that died, about 100 British women died of Breast Cancer. We have an attrition rate of about 100 per month (48,000 in 4 years) in the UK alone. Again a tragedy for every one of them plus their friends and families.
The researchers are certain they will find a cure - the question is when?

i hate to derail BUT

chaps, you generally have ladies in your lives - some of EWE know what I am talking about for those that don't

nag them , remind them, go with them etc

go get their smears, their mammograms etc

it really is that important

those that already have a diagnosis, we keep looking for a cure or treatment

but life is better if we get things early

( AND i am not suggesting that any one did not do those sorts of thing either ,,,,)

.... and get them to exercise 30 mins per day (yes - join them too - it'll do you good) - it reduces the risk of breast cancer by 20% ..... meaning in a year, 9,000 fewer women in the UK alone would not develop the disease.

The government's (inappropriately named) medicines approvals board NICE continually rejects new drugs that are effective in treating (incurable) secondary breast cancer. The drugs companies want to charge excessive sums for the drugs. There is an impasse between the government regulators and the drugs companies - and in the meantime people are denied the drugs that could extend and improve the quality of their lives. It's especially important to me as one of these drugs would be the next stage of treatment for my wife when her current treatment stops working.
