I'm gonna TRY and make it tomorrow (if that's ok with everyone).
I would like the opportunity to be involved with at least one ride out with a chap that everyone has so much respect for.

I've been spending all afternoon trying to get someone to cover for me, as our lady who said she would can't now. Sadly I've drawn a blank and I'm feeling very sad.

I will however be there in spirit, Sam was special, in some respects a brother I never had.

Sorry Tim.

I will come up one weekend tho to see where his final resting place is.

Peter

Sad to say I can't make it tomorrow - visitors from half way round the world dropping in to work for meetings.
I'd have liked to have been there to pay my respects but that will now have to be done at a distance.
(and this isn't just a sour-grapes tit-for-tat because Phil didn't come to the ridersite weekend!)
I only met Phil face to face on a few occasions but knowing him on here and Facebook all helped me get feel that I knew him quite well.
I can certainly say that he made my life richer and I'm definitely glad to have known him. I'll miss him.
I doubt many know but when Phil had to give up building because of his illness, he remembered that my youngest son was starting out in the building trade .... and thanks to Phil, many of his tools are finding new work in the hands of my lad (and me from time to time). That's another example for his care for people and desire to help them.
I'm sure I'll always remember him and that will bring a smile to my face.

I can't be there tomorrow but I'm planning a Baffle Free ride to work in his honour (never had the baffles out before)

Tim - I hope things go well tomorrow. Best wishes and sympathies to your family - particularly to you and your mum.

No need to feel sad Pete, Sam would tell you to stop being a silly old fool and stop worrying about it! Mum said she's changed the lightbulbs now so it's alright :smt002 :smt002 She sends her love.
He held you in the highest esteem and I know he considered you very special to him. He was always worried when you had spells of being ill and not on the site! Youre more than welcome to visit sometime. He's being cremated and i'm going to scatter his ashes in a nice quiet Norfolk setting that holds a meaning for his family.
Andy, again thanks for all you've said and done for him. I know he couldnt have thought of a better person to carry on with his tools and I know he considered you a friend as opposed to an acquaintance, as he did for all on the site whether he'd met them or just passed chat with on the forums.
I'll post up my euology at some stage, whether I manage to actually say it tomorrow without deviating from it is debatable. I could wax lyrical about him for ages.. :smt003

I'll be thinking of Sam and all those paying their respects tomorrow. I never met him, but feel that I know him even without having met him face to face. The world is a poorer place for his passing, but his passing should be celebrated for the joy and pleasure he gave to so many people in life.

I haven't had the wherewithal to find appropriate words to feel I could express my thoughts adequately.
What I can say is that I hope when my time comes that I can in all conscience say to myself I had half the positive impact and influence and enjoyment of life that Sam had.
I wish I could be there in body but definitely will be in spirit and for me I do believe in that better place and will celebrate another good person arriving
May all that is good accompany you all on this day
Blessings to you all
For the avoidance of doubt and for the benefit of my wife, not everything I may say here will be absolutely true I may on ocassion embellish a little for effect.
That said when it comes to motorbikes, I like to ride side saddle with a nice frock

I'd just like to say a huge thankyou to Hanna, Pete, Mart and Del for providing the rumble of thunder to proceedings. :smt003

I'd half informed/asked my mum about outriders and she'd at first been rather opposed to it. I explained what I had in mind and she slowly came round to the idea.

I'd informed her of the route (I chose it) and how it would pass by Seastar Superbikes, how I'd asked the hearse driver to drop a few mph as he passed as well..

Come the day, we had 4 bikes turn up.. well 3, then 10 mins before the hearse arrived pete and Hanna shot off to grab the stealth Falco.. arriving back behind the hearse.. we heard the bikes well before we saw anything and the impromptu escort in for the hearse was absolutely spot on, couldnt have planned it any better! We'll give Hanna the credit for that one :smt002

The hearse turned round, two family cars behind it, followed by the 4 bikes, so Sam could hear them as we drove along and then the remaining cars.
The whole route all you could hear was a rumble of V Twins. Sam would have absobloodylutely loved it.

True to word, the hearse slowed by Seastar, where with the garage roof and building layout, the rumble rose to a thunderous wall of sound. Mum at this point was so pleased.. she kinda understood...

On to the straight from Newton Flotman down to the Dun Cow.. check the mirror.. look ahead.. tick, tick BOOM.. Alad flew past the Hearse on full chat with a lovely unplanned gap of a few seconds between each of the other bikes as they too shot by.. I explained the reasoning as they did it (My Dad explained this road a while back in a thread somewhere).
Mum was absolutely over the moon and as the bikes pulled in to fall back in file, she broke with.. 'how one should conduct one's self'.. and gave them a huge thumbs up. A huge smile on what was for her a very sad and solemn day.

Dad will have had a huge grin on his face the whole way. When I broke him out of the norfolk and Norwich, when.. April? we were passed by a gixxer coming the other way with a racecan on. he didnt stop about that bike and the wonderful sound it made the whole journey back. so you can imagine what he wouldve been like laid there with nowt to do but listen on that journey to the crematorium!!!

Ceremony passed with some very tall skypilot chatting, then a hobbit chatting, then the very tall skypilot again and then the curtains closed and that was that.

I did notice just out of the immediate parking area a lone biker getting on what looked like a Honda 600. They definately weren't with us..

I'd imagine that was his Whiskeryness setting off..

There was a distant rumble in the distance too earlier in the day.. I believe that was the no baffles ride to work gang.. Many thanks to you too.

Thanks also to everyone who has contributed with very kind words and thoughts and memories of Sam. Theyve been very humbling and it's been an honour to accept them on Dad's behalf.

Glad the day went well with Sam and Mum both pleased!
