I've always used an OS map thingy called 'Getamap' when plotting Round britain Rally landmarks - now it tells me I have to have something called MS Silverlight! Grr.
Is it ok to download this (my poor overloaded computer will hate it but still.....)

It's a similar thing to Adobes Flash application framework. It's basically an environment for the web page to run in. If the site you're looking at is requesting it, then yes, you'll need it to view the page in question. The site will have been written for this application. As far as I can tell, it's Micro$ofts way of trying to get their software on to Apple products and mobile phones. Being a mapping site, it makes sense that they're using Silverlight, as newer mobile phones make great GPS units.
Hope that helps.

That's right Sam - I've used it for years but obviously they've changed it.
